DAILY REFLECTION

A good father nurtures, protects, disciplines, and provides for his children with unwavering affection and mercy. His presence shapes lives, instills values, and reflects the profound love of God. 

Jason Wong has dedicated his life to strengthening families and empowering fathers. Through his distinguished career as Deputy Director/Chief of Staff of the Singapore Prison Service, CEO of SCORE, and Senior Director of Rehabilitation & Protection at the Ministry of Social and Family Development, he has championed transformation in communities. Recognising the struggles many fathers face and the lasting impact of absent parenting, he founded the Dads for Life movement, inspiring fathers to be actively involved in their children's lives. His ministry provides essential support, resources, and encouragement to help fathers build stronger bonds and embrace their vital role in shaping the next generation.  His work mirrors the restorative and compassionate nature of God’s fatherly love, ensuring that families flourish and children grow up with guidance and security. For his contributions, he was honored with the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2002.

Psalm 103:13 reminds us that God’s love is steadfast and His compassion unwavering. In a world of uncertainties, His kindness is a constant, inviting us to walk in faith and embrace a relationship built on trust and reverence.

Christians are stewards of God’s grace, called to use their gifts for His glory and the good of others.

Dato Dr. Colin Lee, Founder and Group Medical Director of Alpha IVF Group, stands at the forefront of fertility innovation. A true pioneer, he has revolutionized reproductive healthcare with groundbreaking achievements - helping bring to life the world's first micro-injection baby and the first human co-culture blastocyst baby. His leadership introduced Asia and Australia to microarray comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) for comprehensive embryo genetic testing, setting new standards in genetic precision. His expertise extends to remarkable firsts, including the world's first successful pregnancy and delivery following PGD-CGH diagnosis of chromosome inversion. With unwavering commitment, he harnesses advanced reproductive technologies to bring hope to individuals and couples struggling with infertility. His work transcends medical excellence, changing lives and turning dreams of parenthood into reality. His contributions not only advance fertility treatment but also position Malaysia as a key player in global medical tourism. In a historic milestone, he made waves on 22 March 2024 by listing his IVF practice on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange - the first-ever IVF company to achieve this breakthrough.

1 Peter 4:10 calls believers to a life of service, where each gift we receive is an opportunity to reflect God’s boundless grace. When we use our talents to serve others, we honor Him, embodying His love through purposeful action.

True greatness, according to Jesus, is not found in status or recognition but in humility - meeting the needs of others with love and sacrifice. 

Mary Chen, Founder and Executive Director of Beacon Hospital and Beacon Chicken, embodies this principle in extraordinary ways. In 2010, she took over the former Wijaya International Medical Centre, renaming it Beacon Hospital. Despite having no medical background, she stepped into the unknown, guided by faith and a deep desire to make cancer treatment accessible to those in need. She faced immense challenges, including a devastating fire in 2015 but her faith in God never wavered.  Beacon Hospital stands as a beacon of hope, committed to providing affordable, high-quality cancer care through its extensive corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Similarly, Beacon Chicken was never about profit - it was born from a vision to provide wholesome food for cancer patients, with proceeds supporting the hospital’s charitable work. Through her selfless service, countless patients and families not only found healing but also received the gift of salvation, a testament to the power of love in action.

Matthew 20:28 is a call to a life of radical humility, boundless love, and unwavering service. In His own words, Christ reveals the essence of true greatness: not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.  It is an invitation to embody selfless love, to pour ourselves out for the good of others, and to live in a way that reflects the very heart of God.

Christians are called to invest their time, talents, and finances for God’s glory.

Dato Peter Ng, founder and Executive Chairman of the UCSI Group, embodies this principle through his journey of faith-driven entrepreneurship. From humble beginnings in 1986, when he established UCSI University as a small computer training institute, he nurtured it into one of Malaysia’s leading education providers. His vision, stewardship, and unwavering commitment transformed a modest enterprise into a thriving conglomerate with diverse interests in education, consultancy, healthcare, hospitality, property, and technology. Under his leadership, UCSI has become a beacon of innovation, industry collaboration, and global excellence, empowering thousands through accessible, quality education. His dedication extends beyond business - UCSI offers scholarships to underprivileged students and actively supports community projects and disaster relief efforts. His ability to multiply impact through responsible resource management is a powerful testimony of faithfulness and stewardship, honoring God through his work.

Matthew 25:21 reminds believers that true stewardship is measured not by how much we receive, but by how faithfully we use our God-given resources. When we live responsibly, humbly, and with purpose, we honor God and multiply the impact of His blessings.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

Christians are chosen not for their merit but by God's grace. They are welcomed into a new spiritual family with a divine purpose.

Ps Dr Philip Lyn, the founding pastor of Skyline SIB Church in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, exemplifies this calling in a remarkable way. As both a medical doctor and a senior pastor leading a congregation of around 800 members, he embodies the biblical concept of the royal priesthood, demonstrating that serving God extends beyond the walls of a church. His life is a testament to holistic faith, seamlessly integrating his professional expertise with his spiritual mission. Through his medical practice, he offers physical healing, while his pastoral ministry nurtures spiritual growth, revealing a powerful synergy between faith and vocation. His bivocational journey is a compelling reminder that believers are called to reflect God’s light in every aspect of life lighting up the world with His presence.

1 Peter 2:9 beautifully encapsulates this truth: as God’s chosen people, believers are set apart to be His royal priests. They are entrusted with a divine mission - to proclaim His truth, extend His grace, and bring others out of darkness into His marvelous light. It is a calling of purpose, privilege, and responsibility, urging every Christian to live in a way that shines His love and power into the world.

We serve a God of wonders- One who turns suffering into strength, despair into hope, and brokenness into wholeness.

Pastor Terrence KK Sinnadurai, founder of Desa Amal Jireh (DAJ), dedicated his life to serving others, building a home for children and seniors where love and care flourished. Despite enduring a 40-year battle with diabetes and heart issues, he remained steadfast in his faith, humbly and tirelessly serving the Lord. His life was marked by generosity, unwavering dedication, and profound love for his family and community - an embodiment of living in service. On May 21, 2025, he was promoted to Heaven, surrounded by loved ones who praised God in their sorrow and gratitude. His departure reflected the peace and acceptance echoed in Psalm 34:18. Thousands gathered to mourn, their presence was a testimony to the deep impact of his life. Even through physical suffering, his spirit remained unshaken, and his legacy endures through DAJ - a living testament to his faith and compassion.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us that in our darkest moments, we are never alone. God walks with us, offering comfort and redemption. Though suffering may persist, His presence remains unwavering, His transformative power ever-present in the storm.

God values justice and is deeply concerned with how leaders treat the disadvantaged. 

Lee Kuan Yew (LKY), Singapore’s first Prime Minister and widely regarded as the founding father of modern Singapore, transformed the nation from a small, resource-poor British colony into one of the world’s most prosperous and influential states. He established a strong rule of law and efficient governance, creating a stable and predictable environment for economic growth and social progress. A champion of meritocracy, he sought to provide opportunities based on ability rather than social background. His leadership prioritised economic growth and the well-being of all Singaporeans, leading to significant poverty reduction and vast improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. He once stated, “A society to be successful must maintain a balance between nurturing excellence and encouraging the average to improve.”LKY passed away at age 93 on March 23, 2015, leaving behind a legacy as a highly respected global statesman. 

Proverbs 29:14 reminds us that true leadership derives not from force or wealth, but from moral responsibility - especially toward those who are most easily overlooked. Justice, when faithfully upheld, fosters trust, peace, and a lasting prosperity.

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”
2 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ ‭

One day, every believer will stand before Christ’s judgment seat to give an account of their lives on earth.

Ferdinand Marcos, the tenth president of the Philippines (1965–1986), began his tenure with promises of economic growth but soon became synonymous with authoritarian rule, rampant corruption, and grave human rights violations. His regime saw widespread abuses - torture, imprisonment, and extrajudicial killings - marking a profound failure of accountability. Amassing billions through exploitation, he left the nation burdened with crippling debt. Despite the people's outcry, justice remained elusive. Millions took to the streets in protest, and through the historic People Power movement, he was ultimately overthrown and forced into exile. Yet, decades later, the scars of his rule remain. The absence of full accountability continues to hinder national healing, a stark reminder of the enduring consequences of unchecked power and corruption.

2 Corinthians 5:10 calls us to live with holiness, serve faithfully, and walk in unwavering integrity. It is a sobering yet hopeful reminder that our lives carry divine purpose and that God’s justice remains perfect.

“Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.”
1 Timothy‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬ ‭

The pursuit of wealth, when driven by excess and disregard for integrity, often results in unwise decisions that harm not only the individual but also those around them.

A striking example is the case of the wife of a former PM of Malaysian. Her extravagant lifestyle and insatiable desire for luxury goods drew intense public scrutiny, especially in light of the economic struggles faced by many Malaysians. Following the ruling government’s fall in the 2018 election, authorities confiscated a staggering amount of assets linked to the couple, including 12,000 pieces of jewelry worth nearly RM1 billion, RM100 million in cash across 26 countries, 423 luxury watches valued at RM70 million, 567 designer handbags worth RM50 million, and 234 pairs of branded sunglasses valued at RM400,000. She was convicted of bribery and sentenced to 10 years in prison for her involvement in a RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project scandal. However, she was later acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Her relentless pursuit of wealth and power not only tarnished her own reputation but also severely damaged the integrity of the ruling government. This case serves as a sobering reminder of how unchecked greed can lead to unethical behavior and long-term consequences.

1 Timothy 6:9 warns believers against allowing the desire for wealth to consume their lives, cautioning that such pursuits can lead to spiritual ruin. It  urges us to seek virtues that bring lasting fulfillment and eternal reward.

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

As believers, we are called to shift our focus from material gain to a purpose-driven life rooted in faith, love, and service.

Mother Teresa’s life was a shining example to the power of selfless love and unwavering faith. As the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to serving “the poorest of the poor,” caring for the sick, dying, orphaned, and destitute in Calcutta, India. She chose a life of simplicity, relinquishing personal comfort and material wealth to embrace a higher calling. Her humble saris, modest accommodations, and reliance on donations reflected her deep conviction that true riches are found not in possessions, but in the love we give and the lives we touch. She received global recognition for her humanitarian efforts, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She passed away on September 5, 1997, at the age of 87. Her legacy continues to inspire people worldwide to prioritise eternal treasures over earthly possessions.

Matthew 6:19-21 invites us to embrace a life of simplicity-one that transcends fleeting material gains and leads to true fulfillment and eternal purpose. When our hearts are set on heavenly treasures, our lives reflect a deeper joy, a greater impact, and an unwavering trust in God’s provision.
