Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Is an online degree equivalent to an on-campus degree?
Yes, an online degree is equivalent to an on-campus degree with respect to the degree awarded, learning outcomes, course content, quality of instruction, and assessment standards. However, the modes of delivery and student experience differ. While on-campus study offers a close-knit community and residential experience, online programs provide flexibility for those who may not be able to leave their jobs or relocate due to personal and financial commitments. Each mode of study has its own unique advantages.
2. Who teaches and grades the online courses?
All online courses are delivered by qualified academic lecturers, including international faculty. Video lectures are available on our learning platform. Courses are facilitated and graded by trained academic staff engaged by Tyrannus Online Seminary. Occasionally, in-person classes are held at the Tyrannus Centre or local venues, taught by either resident or visiting lecturers.
3. How are online courses assessed?
Assessment for online courses is primarily based on coursework submitted during each term. This typically includes short written responses (300–370 words each) to review and application questions, and a longer assignment (1,500–1,800 words). The total written work per 4-credit hour module generally ranges from 7,000 to 7,500 words. There are no written examinations, except for specific language courses such as Biblical Greek and Biblical Hebrew.
4. Do I need a reliable internet connection?
Yes, a stable internet connection is recommended to access video lectures and podcasts effectively. However, most courses provide accompanying workbooks and transcripts, ensuring that students with lower bandwidth can still keep up with coursework.
5. What type of device do I need for online study?
Course materials, including videos and podcasts, can be accessed on a variety of devices such as personal computers, tablets, and smartphones. Communication with facilitators and peers is also supported across these platforms.
6. Do I need advanced computer skills?
No advanced computer skills are required. Basic familiarity with computers and word processing software is sufficient. Assignments are submitted online using standard programs, and common media players such as VLC or Windows Media Player can be used to access video and audio content.
7. Will I need access to a library or to purchase books?
Tyrannus Centre provides a small physical library for students, as well as a developing digital library with essential e-books. Each module includes relevant resources, such as scanned articles, book excerpts, and links to reputable online sources and electronic journals.
8. What is the cost of the online TOS-LMS program?
A one-time registration fee of RM100 or USD30 applies to all new students enrolling in credit courses.
• For credit courses, the fee is RM450 or USD130 per course.
