DAILY REFLECTION
“It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,”- 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
In a culture where sexual immorality is often compromised, Bible calls believers to a higher standard - one marked by holiness, integrity, and self-control.
The case of Dr. Suhail Anjum, a 44-year-old UK-based consultant anesthetist, is a sobering example of what happens when personal desires override professional duty and moral conviction. In September 2023, Dr. Anjum left a sedated patient mid-surgery to engage in sexual activity with a nurse in another operating theater at Tameside Hospital. Though the patient was unharmed, the breach of trust, marital fidelity, and medical ethics was profound.
His actions revealed a lack of self-restraint and a disregard for the sacredness of both his vocation and his relationships. He was dismissed in February 2024 following an internal investigation. While a medical tribunal acknowledged the seriousness of his misconduct, it ruled that he posed no ongoing risk to patients and issued a formal warning on his registration.
Let this serve as a warning and a wake-up call. Whether in leadership, medicine, ministry, or marriage, purity matters. Integrity matters.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 is a call to vigilance. It reminds believers to honour God by resisting temptations and exercising self-control, protect relationships, and witness to the world about the character of Christ in every sphere of life.
“The sinful desire of the flesh leads to uncleanness, sexual immorality, and sensuality.”
