DAILY REFLECTION

“Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.”
Leviticus‬ ‭19‬:‭15‬ ‭

In a world where influence often overshadows integrity, God calls us back to a higher standard. Justice, in His eyes, is never to be swayed by status or wealth but anchored firmly in truth and righteousness.

On 1 July 2025, Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat officially stepped down as Chief Justice on 1 July 2025. She is a highly respected Malaysian lawyer who served as the 10th Chief Justice of Malaysia from May 2019 to July 2025. Her tenure as Chief Justice of Malaysia was marked by landmark decisions that significantly impacted Malaysian law and politics.  Key rulings include upholding Datuk Seri Najib Razak's conviction, striking down unconstitutional provisions in Kelantan's Syariah Criminal Code, reaffirming the need for parental consent in child conversions, limiting the reach of religious fatwas on companies, and striking down a restrictive provision in the Peaceful Assembly Act.  These decisions consistently demonstrated a commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution, protecting individual rights, and limiting the overreach of religious and executive authorities.  Her legacy is one of upholding justice and strengthening the Malaysian judiciary and is expected to shape Malaysian legal doctrine for decades to come.

Leviticus 19:15 teaches that all people, regardless of status, are equally valuable before God and deserve fair treatment. Justice must not be influenced by personal gain or external pressure, but by a commitment to truth, equity, and love for one’s neighbor. For when justice reflects God’s heart, it becomes more than a principle - it becomes a testimony of His presence among us.

“Righteousness exalts a nation, and sin brings reproach.”
