Tyrannus Online Seminary (TOS) was born from the vision to provide a flexible and accessible platform for theological education to Christians in the marketplace.
This vision was brought to life by its founders, the late Professor Dr. Paul Cheng, an esteemed educationist, and Dr. Tan Tek Seng, a visionary business entrepreneur.
They tirelessly sought collaborations with traditional seminaries from 2016 to 2019, forging a path for the future.
In 2017, Dr. Anthony Loke, former Dean of Studies at STM, was hired as Consultant Principal on a 1-year contract, spearheading the seminary's growth.
The late Professor Dr. Paul Cheng stepped in as Principal after Dr. Loke's contract ended, steering the seminary onwards toward its mission.
Tyrannus Online Seminary's journey towards accreditation began in July 2019, when its founders, the late Professor Dr Cheng and Dr Tan, visited the ATA office in Quezon City, Philippines.
Their presentation was successful, and Tyrannus was accepted as an Associate Member of ATA.
Dr Teresa Lua, the General Secretary of ATA, visited Tyrannus Online Seminary to assess their seriousness, ability, and capacity to run a seminary.
By March 2021, Tyrannus Online Seminary had made significant progress. They were admitted as an Associate Member of the Malaysian Association of Theological Schools (MATS).
And then, in March 2020, by divine grace, a new chapter unfolded.
The Movement Control Order (MCO) opened doors for free online Bible studies, with over 2000 participants attending nightly for six months.
TOS's courses gained momentum during the MCO, culminating in a significant milestone on MOU signing with Sarawak Blessed Church, leading to 313 students completing a one-year certificate course on 'Journey Through the Bible' on December 9, 2022.
And the journey didn't stop there. Tyrannus Online Seminary went on to forge partnerships with various organizations, including:
His Sanctuary of Glory, Praise Music International, Sabah Family Care Association, Asia Revival Centre, Third Millennium Ministries, and Haggai Alumni Association Malaysia.
Today, Tyrannus Online Seminary occupies four office units on the 5th floor of Plaza Prima, complete with a well-stocked library and soundproof meeting room.
However, as life inevitably dictates, on January 22, 2023, the founder and principal, Prof. Dr. Paul Cheng, passed away.
Dr. Tan stepped in as the CEO and Acting Principal, assembling a dedicated team of academicians and professionals to carry forward the seminary's mission
Throughout this journey, obstacles were transformed into stepping stones on the path of growth. And through it all, they acknowledge, 'All glory to God.'
TOS continues to grow and thrive, providing quality theological education to Christians in the marketplace through flexible online learning. This is the inspiring journey of TOS - where faith, vision, and dedication have shaped a remarkable story of transformation and learning.
