“Do not be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the ruin of the wicked when it comes.” Proverbs 3:25

In the darkness of the Yom Kippur War in October 1973, Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir made a desperate phone call to U.S. President Richard Nixon. Israel had come under a coordinated surprise attack. Military supplies were rapidly dwindling, and the nation’s very survival hung in the balance. With deep urgency, Meir pleaded for immediate military assistance.

As Nixon listened, he recalled his mother’s parting words: “Son, do not withhold your help when you are entrusted with the power to act.” Although some of his advisers urged caution, Nixon chose decisive action. He gave the order, “Give them anything they want.” That decision launched Operation Nickel Grass, a massive emergency airlift that supplied Israel with critical weapons and aircraft. Many historians believe this bold response helped change the course of the war.

Whether or not one agrees with the political decisions surrounding that conflict, the account illustrates a timeless principle: true leadership is revealed when fear is overcome by the courage to act.

Crises often tempt us to panic, retreat, or hesitate. Yet God’s wisdom calls us to respond differently. Proverbs 3:25 reminds us, “Do not be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the ruin of the wicked when it comes.” Faith does not ignore danger; it empowers us to move forward with courage because our confidence rests in God rather than our circumstances.

Each day, God entrusts us with opportunities to make a difference. He gives us time, resources, abilities, influence, and compassion—not merely for our own benefit, but to bless those in need. When others are overwhelmed by fear, God calls His people to become instruments of hope, mercy, and peace.

Whatever challenge stands before you today, refuse to let fear have the final word. Trust that God is with you and step forward in obedient faith. The truest evidence of faith is not merely what we believe, but how courageously we obey. When we choose faith over fear, God can use our lives to bring hope, healing, and blessing to a troubled world.
