DAILY REFLECTION
“fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”Hebrews 12:2
Life’s trials, though daunting, become bearable when our gaze is fixed on Christ - the One who went before us and now reigns victorious. His path of suffering led to triumph, showing us that faithfulness through adversity is never in vain.
Robert Morrison, a pioneering Scottish missionary and sinologist, stands as a powerful example of steadfast devotion. Ordained in 1807 and sent to China by the London Missionary Society, he faced immense resistance - hostile governments, bans on religious activity, and cultural barriers. Yet he pressed on. Equipped with a deep commitment to Christ and an unshakable resolve, Morrison immersed himself in Chinese language and culture, translating the entire Bible into Chinese by 1821. In partnership with William Milne, he co-founded the Anglo-Chinese College in Melaka, Malaysia to prepare future missionaries for frontier evangelism. Their mission was to make God’s Word known among the unreached. His labor of love opened the door for generations of gospel workers in China, and his legacy reverberates today - not just in missions, but in every believer who clings to Christ through hardship. His life reminds us that when we fix our eyes on Jesus, even the fiercest trials can be transformed into testimonies of victory.
Hebrews 12:2 encourages believers to fix their eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. His suffering, motivated by love and hope, reveals a purpose transcending immediate pain. This example offers both comfort and challenge, calling us to persevere, trusting in God's work to mature our faith.
“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God."
